Axis Mechanical, Inc. is a specialty commercial mechanical contractor serving the largest companies in Silicon Valley and the San Francisco Bay Area. The Axis Mechanical team is known for delivering some of the most complex and involved design-build commercial HVAC mechanical contracting services in Northern California. We work in a broad range of facilities including bio-tech, data centers, clean rooms, hospitals, MOBs, and large corporate offices.

We are currently adding a Mechanical Project Engineer – HVAC & Plumbing to our team. The Project Engineer is responsible for assisting Project Managers and Estimators with all facets of executing mechanical projects within schedule and budget, to the highest levels of quality and craftsmanship. Responsibilities include planning, scheduling, and executing mechanical plumbing and HVAC projects. 

Key Responsibilities
  • Track, generate and distribute RFIs, change orders and submittals
  • Assist PM in the preparation and monitoring of work packages, including labor and cost estimates 
  • Assist PM in tracking construction progress including all activities listed in project schedule
  • Track and update project schedules
  • Track and update schedules for the procurement of equipment and materials
  • Extract details from plans when requested
  • Attend job walks
  • Attend project planning meetings
  • Write and distribute project meeting minutes
  • Help coordinate scheduling of subcontractors
  • Schedule and monitor mechanical and plumbing submittals
  • Schedule manufacturers start-up technicians
  • Verify mechanical and plumbing materials and equipment purchasing needs; complete purchase orders once verified
  • Assist with field tasks at the direction of PM and Superintendent (e.g. follow-up on safety issues, assist in Quality Control)
  • Develop and maintain mechanical and plumbing equipment log
  • Distribute and track phasing and project close-out "punch lists"
  • Support PM in project close-out efforts, including compilation of project closeout documentation for clients (warranties, operating and maintenance manuals, material for maintenance stock, etc.)
  • Over time, the Project Engineer will be trained on how to:
  1. Read plans and conduct on-screen takeoffs
  2. Support the creation of project budgets and generating proposals for customers
  3. Make takeoff sheets, determine pricing and create estimates 
  4. Support PM and Superintendent in scheduling and managing installations 
Qualifications
  • 2+ years of professional experience with mechanical and plumbing construction projects
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or Construction Management is preferred but not required
  • Working knowledge of MS Office applications is required
  • Working knowledge of Bluebeam and Revit is preferred
  • Understanding of mechanical/plumbing code and installation practices is preferred
  • Knowledge of complex mechanical systems and means/ethods of installation is preferred
  • Proficiency in reading mechanical and plumbing drawings is preferred
  • A desire to learn and grow with our company is a must
